After the first of two "Real Bad Boldy" drops that happened over at realbadman.com I was kind of annoyed. Not only about people using bots but also about people not trying to prevent that. Weather it is google reCAPTCHA in your shopify environment or something else. If you don’t like bots – show them that they are not welcome and try to be a bit creative.
The next day I did some quick mockups and texted Tuff Kong Records – cause the second "Real Bad Boldy" drop was supposed to happen here soon. I suggested to add a Real Bad Boldy item that is pretty similar to the vinyl that is going to be released. The only difference – it is just a polaroid of the vinyl with a significant message: F*** YOUR BOT.
Tuff Kong Records liked the idea and gave it a little twist to make the order instantly fulfilled. So they offered a digital download of the album.
The so called #botfood item was released just before the official drop and was "only" accessible using the integrated search on the Tuff Kong website. Means it was invisible for people that scan the normal categories like "home", "releases" or "pre-orders". But it was not invisible for all the bots out there – they were buying that digital download anyway.
